Good Cookbook but needs more pictures and step by step. This is a really helpful book. I have a goal every few months to "conquer" a type of baked good and this quarter it is Macarons. I thought that this book would not only help with the basics but also any troubleshooting I had and it does that brilliantly. I loved details that author went into for each step of the cookie process: the introduction, troubleshooting, the shells, the filling and measurements and conversions. There are also a bunch (60) recipes for different flavorings, colors and mixes. The instructions are easy to follow and simple.The reason this is getting three stars and not five is that I am a visual learner and have a severe aversion to cookbooks with no pictures. If I am learning I need to see the correct way and the incorrect way to bake these. There are some in here but most of them are irrelevant to the process. Also each of the 60 recipes don't have pictures and so I cannot compare my creations to those in the book. While this is a personal preference it does make the difference for me in truly loving a book verses enjoying it.Macarons Demystified Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a review. You will need some special equipment, such as piping bags and a gridded silicone mat, but it's not expensive.Bonus: these cookies take almond flour, not wheat, so they're also gluten-free. I wonder if I can make them sugar-free?My first recipe will be the Mexican Hot Chocolate Shells (p. 67) with Chocolate Ganache filling (p.104). I might make them for Christmas, or just for me and BF, who loves just about anything chocolate as I do.
